Ten Steps to Writing a Resume

  1. Start with a Resume Template
  2. Choose a Basic Font
Choosing a font that may be difficult to read can stop a recruiter/ employee from noticing you! Choose something clean, clear, and legible to help make your first impression a good one!
  3. Include all Contact Information
  4. Include Resume Keywords
Review the job description and similar descriptions for the position you are applying for. Be sure to use similar words in the description to help catch the recruiters/ employers eye!
  5. Choose the Right Resume Format
Each layout emphasizes different areas of focus. Be sure to choose the one that best fits the position you are applying for.
  6. Prioritize your Resume Content
Decide what information is relevant. Put yourself in the recruiters position, ask yourself what will convince the recruiter you are right for the job, leave out all the extra details!

Dress for Success

Do's & Don'ts

What Not to Wear to An Interview

  • Flip-flops or sneakers, scuffed shoes, stilettos, and open toed shoes.

  • Underwear (bras, bra straps, briefs, boxers, etc.) that is visible. Don't wear any underwear that shows -
even if your bra straps match your top.

  • Shorts, jeans. Pants that are too low-rise or too tight.

  • Blouses that are too low-cut or too short - don't show your cleavage or your belly.

  • Your idea of trendy might not match the interviewer's perspective on what's fashionable, so err on the side of dressing conservatively when you interview.

  • Long fingernails, especially with bright or specialty polishes. Nails should be cleaned and trimmed.

  • Your scent (even if you smell good) can be an issue
